Ford Asked to Recall 1982-84 Escorts, Lynxes

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has asked Ford Motor Co. to recall 1.1 million 1982 to 1984 Ford Escort and Mercury Lynx automobiles to correct rear seat belts that tend to twist and bind passengers, officials said Tuesday.

In Dearborn, Mich., Charles Snearly of Ford’s Parts and Service Division said the auto maker is looking into the recall request but had not yet decided whether to comply.
