Re Debra Hotaling’s name crisis (“Holding On to One’s Identity With a Name,” Other Views, April 24): The surname is merely a matter of I.D. and is easy enough to change by law if disliked. She is telling us she wants to be known as connected to her father, rather than to her husband. This is sensible, as you cannot change your father, and husbands may come and go frequently. One question for Debra though--why did she not choose to identify with her mother and use her family name?
