Visiting Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega said in Madrid that he would send home about 700 Cuban military advisers if other Central American states made comparable moves. In an interview with the Spanish news agency EFE, Ortega cited the recent departure from Nicaragua of 100 Cuban advisers. He said this left 700 military advisers and 700 technical assistance experts still in the country. U.S. military trainers serve in Honduras and El Salvador.
