Crews at Three Mile Island lifted a 55-ton cover off the damaged Unit 2 nuclear reactor Wednesday, giving workers clear access to the damaged fuel core. Fuel fragments will be scooped into canisters with long-handled tools and eventually shipped to an Energy Department research site in Idaho, officials said. The cleanup is expected to be completed by 1988.
