Fullerton : Student-Built Home to Be Sold Through Drawing

Share

A three-bedroom, two-bath house built by students on city-owned property will be up for grabs this summer in a drawing geared to benefit Fullerton families looking to purchase affordable housing.

A similar project last year went for $90,000. This year, the house is located at 2012 E. Dorothy Lane and is the fourth to be built in the area through a program run by the city and Fullerton College.

After students from the college’s construction technology department build the home as part of a class project, the city will sell it to the winner of a drawing, city spokeswoman Sylvia Palmer Mudrick said.

To qualify for the drawing, prospective buyers must be Fullerton residents who do not own any other property and whose total income is less than the county median. To qualify, the residents also must put down a $1,000 deposit, which will be refunded if they do not win, and they must occupy the house themselves if their name is drawn.

Packets of information with a date, not yet set, for the drawing will be mailed out to interested people this summer. For further information, call the city’s Engineering and Community Development Department at 738-6845.
