Sequoia Protection Plan

Share

Plans for Sequoia National Park call for removal of most of the lodging and other visitor facilities at Giant Forest by 1990, the 100th anniversary of the park.

This is being done to protect the giant sequoias from the impact of heavy visitation and to enhance the natural appearance of this special grove. New facilities will be built away from the sequoias at Clover Creek in the park. Utility and road work is expected to begin shortly.

Giant Forest accommodations range from rustic cabins without bath ($21 weekend double, $19 midweek) to deluxe motel rooms with bath ($60 weekends, $58 midweek; $38-$31 during winter season).

Tent cabins, showers and two meals at Bearpaw Meadow at the end of an 11 1/2-mile hike via the High Sierra Trail into the park’s wilderness country are $40 per person a day, late June to early September.
