Weinberger Lists Personal Assets of $1.6 Million
Defense Secretary Caspar W. Weinberger had personal assets of at least $1.6 million and earned at least $294,000 in 1984, according to a disclosure statement issued Wednesday.
Weinberger also reported receiving gifts from military and civilian leaders of four foreign countries.
The disclosure form, issued without Pentagon comment and required of major federal officeholders, showed that most of Weinberger’s assets and outside income were from municipal bonds and money market funds. Two Merrill Lynch accounts worth at least $250,000 each generated income of $100,000 or more.
The rules do not require officials to say how much in excess of $250,000 a particular holding is worth, so Weinberger’s assets are most likely higher than $1.6 million.
He had income ranging from less than $1,000 to as much as $50,000 from public authority bonds in California, Maine, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Michigan and North Carolina.
