Fountain Valley : 4 Athletic Fields to Be Built in Mile Square Park
Construction of two fully lighted baseball fields and two soccer fields is scheduled to begin in early June at the Fountain Valley Recreation and Cultural Center in Mile Square Park, officials say.
The baseball fields will be suitable for regulation adult softball or youth and Little League baseball, said Don Heinbuch, a spokesman for the Public Works Department. Community youth and adult groups plan to use the new fields.
In addition to the new ball fields, an existing athletic field in the northeast corner of the center will get new lighting as part of the same $400,000 project.
City officials will be joined by Orange County Supervisor Roger Stanton for a ground-breaking ceremony at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Brookhurst Street and Heil Avenue. City Manager Judy Kelsey said Stanton was instrumental in securing funds for the project.
The county is supplying $202,000 in Quimby Act Park Fees toward the project. Much of the balance will come from state bonds, Heinbuch said. The city’s share will probably be about $20,000, but could be less, he said.
