More IRS Woes: Computers Reject Many Returns
The new Internal Revenue Service computer system has refused to accept many Americans’ income tax returns this year, which means that a larger number of people than usual will have to file duplicate returns, CBS News reported Friday.
The IRS is advising taxpayers to telephone on its toll-free taxpayer service lines if they have not received their refunds within 10 weeks of filing.
If after 16 weeks the IRS still has no record of the return, taxpayers will be required to file a duplicate return, IRS spokesman Rod Young said.
He said the IRS would try to speed processing of duplicates so that taxpayers would receive refunds four to six weeks after the duplicate is filed.
