Suriname Recalls Its Dutch Envoy, Cites Costs

THE HAGUE —
The military government in the former Dutch colony of Suriname on Sunday announced the recall of its ambassador to The Hague.
Prime Minister Wim Udenhout told a news conference in the capital Paramaribo that financial considerations have persuaded the Latin American state to cut its representation in several countries. Ambassador Henk Heidweiler and another member of The Hague delegation were among aout 50 diplomats from Suriname’s total corps of 150 being recalled.
