Canada Radio to Make Mosquitoes Buzz Off
A radio station that caters to the summer cottage crowd in the Laurentian mountains north of Montreal has come up with a unique public service.
Starting today, CIME-FM will broadcast “anti-mosquito” frequencies twice a day so listeners can enjoy lunch and dinner in peace, a station spokesman said.
The broadcasts imitate the high-pitched sounds of male mosquitoes flapping their wings. Female mosquitoes, the ones that sting, avoid the males when they’re hunting for blood.
The theory is that when the females hear the imitation being broadcast, they’ll keep their distance.
