BOSTON —
A political ward boss for former Boston Mayor Kevin White pleaded guilty Wednesday to federal fraud and perjury charges, less than two weeks before his trial was scheduled to begin.
Robert L. Toomey Sr., already serving a two-year sentence for fraudulently collecting a city disability pension, was charged with six federal counts in connection with the handling of $50,000 in checks for work done to a South Boston bar of which he is co-owner. The charges carry a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison.
