Medical Buildings : Rancho Cucamonga to Be Site of Hospital

A $22-million health-care campus including an 80-bed acute-care hospital is planned for a 40-acre site in Rancho Cucamonga by Republic Health Corp. of Dallas, the fifth-largest investor-owned health-care management company in the United States, and Barton Development Co. of Rancho Cucamonga.

Construction of a medical office building to be linked to the hospital is scheduled to begin this summer, and the hospital is expected to be under way later in the year. Hospital Affiliates Development Corp. of Nashville, Tenn., is responsible for overall design.

Loan Provided

A $6.1-million loan has been provided by First Interstate Mortgage Co. Health-Care Financing Group for Stanton Medical Development Co. to renovate Midwood Community Hospital in Stanton. The 110-bed clinic was established more than 20 years ago.

Remodeling Expected

Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation is expected to be remodeled at a cost of $1.5 million, according to the architectural firm of Dominy/Larson/Carpenter of San Diego, which is designing the plans. PM Construction Co. has been selected as general contractor.

Office Condos Rising

The $2-million Sycamore Medical Plaza, a 12-unit, 20,000-square-foot, medical-dental office-condominium project, is being constructed in Simi Valley at Sycamore Drive and Alamo Street with unit prices starting at $82,500. The project was designed by the architectural firm of Kenn Butts AIA and is a development of the Genesis Group, a partnership between Umbrella Inc., Leo B. Gendernalik, William E. Laker and Occidental Land Research.

Renovation Planned

A $3-million interior renovation and expansion project designed by Widom/Wein & Partners of Los Angeles is planned at Beverly Hills Medical Center on Beverly Drive in Los Angeles. The seven-story, 85,000-square-foot structure was built in the late 1960s.

Space Leased

Cigna Healthplans of California has leased the entire top floor of a new, three-story medical building at 10861 Cherry St., Los Alamitos, in a five-year transaction valued at $1.4 million, according to the Charles Dunn Co., which represented Cigna and the lessor, Abrams Development Inc. Cigna is headquartered in Dallas.

Plaza Opens

Doctor’s Medical Plaza, a $3.4-million, 40,000-square-foot medical office building, designed by Widom/Wein & Partners and built by Illig Construction Co., has opened on Balboa Boulevard and San Jose Street in Granada Hills.
