An illegal alien was wounded Saturday night and three suspects were arrested in connection with the shooting and robbery near the Brown Field Border Patrol station, San Diego police reported. According to spokesman Bill Robinson, Julio Martinez, 29, and eight other aliens were accosted 350 yards south of the patrol station about 11:15 p.m. by four bandits who were armed with a .22-caliber rifle and a machete. The aliens were robbed, and Martinez was shot in the neck. He was taken by Life Flight helicopter to Mercy Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. Antonio Camerin Lopez, 19; Isias Cortez Caleron, 21, and Edifino Nunez Magana, 24, were taken into custody by Border Patrol agents; the fourth suspect apparently escaped. The three Mexican men were booked at County Jail on suspicion of armed robbery and attempted murder. The other eight victims, who had entered the United States illegally, were awaiting deportation.
