School District Sued on Student Transfers
The City of South Gate filed suit Tuesday against the Los Angeles Unified School District over the decision to transfer 250 South Gate students to Jordan High School in Watts.
The Los Angeles Superior Court action claims that the board move is discriminatory and subject to review under state environmental impact laws.
South Gate officials and parents contend Jordan High offers lower quality education and is located in a high crime area.
Under the unanimous decision reached by school board members May 6, the students would be transferred next fall from the west side of South Gate.
