Bruce E. Cannon, administrator of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s federal highway division, selected Hughes Aircraft Co. as one of three national winners of an award for developing employee ride-sharing programs. The company’s transportation system utilizes buses, vans, car pools and an interplant shuttle system.
Hughes was nominated for the award by the California Department of Transportation, which hailed the company’s contributions to efforts to ease urban traffic congestion.
