Three suspects were arrested after one of them allegedly robbed a self-service gas station of about $100, police said Thursday.

Police spokesman Larry Woessner said one suspect is alleged to have gone to the Chevron gas station at 14600 Edwards St. at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday and asked an attendant the price of cigarettes.

He left and returned 25 minutes later, drew a shotgun from underneath an overcoat and demanded money. After the attendant gave him about $100, the suspect fled on foot, Woessner said.

A passing motorist called police when he saw the suspect and two other men get into a truck near the station. A Stanton patrolman responded to the call and arrested three men at a residence at 11091 Beach Blvd. in Stanton, where money and a shotgun were recovered, Woessner said.

The three suspects were identified as Joey Hopkins, 26, of Westminster, John Nichols Sporich, 44, of Stanton, and Michael David Huff, 38, of Long Beach. They were booked into the Orange County Jail and charged with armed robbery, Woessner said.
