KTLA-TV’s buyer sought a waiver of FCC rules.

Share

Tribune Co. of Chicago asked the Federal Communications Commission for permission to keep the Los Angeles Daily News newspaper and two cable television systems in the Los Angeles area for 18 months after it completes its $510-million purchase of KTLA. FCC rules currently bar a company from owning more than one media outlet in a market unless the firm operated multiple properties in a market before the rules went into effect in 1975. FCC officials have indicated their opposition to permanent waivers.
