China Says Army Cut Will Take 2 Years

PEKING —
China’s army will demobilize 1 million men over the next two years because of increased political stability and a desire to contribute to world peace, the Central Military Commission announced today.
Senior Chinese leaders said earlier this year that the world’s largest standing army, about 4 million strong, will trim its size by one quarter, but the military’s announcement was the first in which a time frame was given.
