‘The Wrong Message’

Your editorial on Rose Bird completely misses the point.

She and her liberal friends have consistently evaded the mandate of the electorate of this state to carry out the death penalty when deemed appropriate by juries and due process.

I really don’t care whether the death penalty is a deterrent or not. If we spend money and resources to convict on the basis of overwhelming evidence then the penalty should be carried out and the state (us) relieved of supporting these people the rest of their lives.

The fact that these judges are elected is a tribute to the good sense of the framers of the state Constitution. I would not like to see this kind of liberality prevail until the incumbent dies or resigns.
