Suspected mass murderer Leonard T. Lake apparently “videotaped everything he did,” said Calaveras County Sheriff Claud) Ballard, who hoped the tapes will help determine whether Lake actually murdered all the people he is suspected of killing. Lake, 39, died, an apparent suicide, after his arrest in South San Francisco more than a week ago. His suspected accomplice, Charles Ng, 24, was still at large and believed to have fled the state. The FBI issued a warrant for his arrest. Ballard said Lake and Ng may have buried “at least 20” bodies on the 2 1/2-acre site in the Sierra foothills near Wilseyville. Two bodies had already been removed from the site. They were described by Ballard as those of a man and a woman, both black. Parts of what was believed to be a third body were also unearthed, as well as several bags of what were suspected to be human bones.
