Two champions in their own right, 1984 Olympic gold medalist Edwin Moses and Mark Titmas, 12, who recently won a silver medal in the California Special Olympics, joined forces Wednesday to announce an 8-kilometer run to benefit handicapped children in Orange County.

At a press conference in Newport Beach, Moses, celebrity chairman for the race, and Titmas, United Cerebal Palsy’s 1985 Orange County poster boy, said the run will help raise money for the United Cerebral Palsy’s Infant Care Center in Santa Ana.

Organizers hope the event, to be held July 14 at the Hotel Meridian in Newport Beach, will raise between $25,000 and $30,000 for the infant care center. Gwen Berg, a spokeswoman for United Cerebral Palsy, said the center treats more than 100 handicapped and developmentally disabled children on an outpatient basis every year.
