A Los Angeles police officer accused of molesting a 12-year-old Ventura County girl pleaded no contest to two felony and two misdemeanor counts of child molesting in Ventura County Municipal Court Wednesday.

Stanley Earl Parker, 39, of Camarillo, a 17-year police veteran, was arrested in late April at the West Valley Division station in Reseda. He was charged with molesting the girl between September, 1982, and March, 1985. The girl is now 14.

Parker had pleaded not guilty at his arraignment. However, Parker’s attorney, Alan Rosenberg, said the officer changed his plea on his psychiatrist’s suggestion to get the legal process behind him quickly.

Rosenberg said Parker has been on disability leave since his arrest and has been receiving psychiatric treatment at Kaiser-Permanente Medical Center in Los Angeles. Rosenberg said at Parker’s arraignment that a psychiatrist had described Parker as self-destructive.

Police spokesman Cmdr. William Booth said an investigation by the Internal Affairs Division is continuing and a decision on whether charges will be filed will be made when it is completed. At the time of his arrest, Parker was assigned to the West Valley Division’s community relations unit.

Parker will be sentenced July 31 by Superior Court Judge Steven Perren. Until then, he is free on $10,000 bail.
