Francis Vigo Post Card Slated for ’86
A commemorative post card scheduled for issuance in 1986 will honor Italian-American patriot Francis Vigo.
During the American Revolution, Vigo provided George Rogers Clark with much-needed funding and supplies necessary to secure the Northwest Territory. In 1779, Vigo was imprisoned briefly by the British for aiding the colonists, but after his release he continued to assist Clark.
The U.S. Postal Service says the Vigo post card will serve as a fitting tribute to one of America’s first patriots, an individual whose devotion to the struggle for American freedom will be remembered for generations to come.
