Question: My husband and I are in desperate need of sweat shirts made of 100% cotton. I wear a women’s size medium, and he wears a men’s size large. All we can find have either acrylic or polyester content.--J.N.

Answer: No sweat. And as a matter of fact, you will sweat less in all-cotton sweat shirts, such as the one illustrated here, than you will in sweats made with either polyester or acrylic content. Because cotton is a natural cellulosic fiber, it allows the skin to breathe, whereas the less breathable, man-made fibers that are oil-derived have a tendency to restrict the flow of heat from the body, capturing much of it in the fabric and causing perspiration. All-cotton sweat shirts for both sexes are available in the current catalogue published by Royal Silk, 45 E. Madison Ave., Clifton, N.J. 07011. For an extra fashion fillip, these sweats are quilted at the shoulders. They are made in India, sizes extra small through extra large, and sell for $19. Colors include white, denim blue and red.

Q: Where can I find colored Velcro in strips? Specifically, I’m looking for brown. I have been able to find brown Velcro in dots and circles, but I want long, wide strips in brown.--M.K.

A: I found the long, wide strips, but only in black, white and tan. You could dye the white or tan, of course. If you’re still interested, International Silks and Woolens has 3/4-inch strips for $2.75 a yard, one-inch strips at $2.95 and two-inch strips at $5.95.

Q: What kind of jewelry would be best with a silk crepe de Chine chemise dress in a Miro-type print with black background? The so-called jewel neckline is supposed to be just right for jewelry, but I’m afraid a necklace would get lost in the print.--N.L.

A: You’re right. Bead necklaces will either fade into the print or--especially in the case of pearls--pop out so much that they divert attention away from the dress. How about covering some plain round earrings in the same print as the dress? This service is offered by a firm called Elegance Studio, 366 S. Barrington Ave. You bring the fabric, and within 24 hours the people at Elegance will use it to cover plain round clip earrings. The price: $3 a pair. The same firm custom-covers buttons and belts.
