Talks on Afghanistan Slated

WASHINGTON —
Middle-level American and Soviet officials will meet here this week in one of a series of sessions on the continued Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, State Department spokesman Bernard Kalb said today.
He said the United States will be represented by Richard Murphy, assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern and South Asian affairs. The chief Soviet representative is Oleg Sokolov, minister counselor at the Soviet Embassy here. Kalb said the officials will meet Tuesday and possibly Wednesday.
