A bill extending the Safe Drinking Water Act for four more years and setting a firm timetable for regulating contaminants threatening the nation’s water supplies won easy House approval today.

The bill, passed on a voice vote, is generally supported by environmental groups but opposed by the Reagan Administration. The measure would give the Environmental Protection Agency one more year to set standards for 14 organic chemicals listed for possible regulation in 1982, and three years to set standards for another 50 contaminants identified in 1983.
