Guerrero Hits 4th Home Run in 4 Games in Win

Red-hot Pedro Guerrero tied a Los Angeles team record by homering in his fourth consecutive game and Fernando Valenzuela pitched a six-hitter Sunday night as the Dodgers beat the Houston Astros, 9-0.

Guerrero, who also doubled in a run, hit his 13th homer of the season and his eighth in his last nine games. His home runs in four consecutive games tied him with eight Los Angeles Dodgers and four Brooklyn Dodgers for the team record.

Guerrero and Mike Marshall each drove in three runs.

Valenzuela (6-7) snapped a personal three-game losing streak and gave the Dodgers a sweep of the three-game series. Valenzuela walked three and struck out five in picking up his third shutout of the season, tying him for the National League high.

The Astros have not scored in their last 25 innings.

The Dodgers took a 2-0 lead in the third off starter Mike Scott (5-3). Ken Landreaux singled with one out and scored on Guerrero’s double. Marshall’s single scored Guerrero.

Guerrero’s two-run homer highlighted a four-run fifth inning. Steve Sax led off with a single and scored two outs on Guerrero’s blast. After walks to Greg Brock and Marshall, Mike Scioscia lined a double, scoring both runners.
