Increased U.S. arms production helped push world military expenditures above $800 billion last year--an increase of 4% over 1983, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute said today.

The institute, the only public data bank on arms, predicted that Soviet arms spending, which according to the CIA has been rising about 2% annually in recent years, will increase faster in response to the Reagan Administration buildup despite the burden it will impose on the Soviet economy.
