Muslim in Gandhi’s Party Shot to Death

NEW DELHI —
Unidentified gunmen shot and killed a Muslim leader of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s governing Congress-I Party as he rode in a rickshaw through a crowded city street, Indian domestic news agencies reported.
Neta Hakimuddin, president of the local Congress Party, died after being hit in the forehead in Meerut, about 50 miles northeast of New Delhi in Uttar Pradesh, police accounts said.
The reason for the killing was not immediately known, nor were other details.
