The U.N. Security Council unanimously condemned South Africa for its commando raid late last month into Angola’s oil-producing northern enclave of Cabinda. The resolution, which the United States voted for, also assailed South Africa for its use of Namibian territory “as a springboard” for attacks on Angola. It demanded unconditional withdrawal of South African forces from Angolan soil and added that Angola is entitled to compensation for material damage it suffered.
