Bomb attacks on three electrical towers outside Santiago plunged the capital and central Chile into darkness in the first outburst of political violence since a seven-month state of siege was lifted Monday. Santiago was blacked out shortly after 9 p.m. as police broke up a march by hundreds of left-wing youths protesting the government’s economic policies and widespread unemployment. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the blackout.
