The opening of the Del Mar Fair attracted 32,103 visitors, up more than 6,000 from last year, fair organizers reported Friday.
"We're pleased with opening day. It's a good indication that attendance will be good," said Jim Stewart, director of media relations. The fair, which opened Thursday, is the second-largest in California.
Kris Kristofferson is expected to pack the grandstand for his shows at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. today, Stewart said. Admission to grandstand shows is included in the $4 fair admission and is on a first come, first served basis. Seating opens one hour before performance time. Jesse Colin Young and the Youngbloods will perform afternoon and evening shows on Sunday.
This weekend visitors can catch the International Photography Exhibition, the 4-H dog show, a cow-milking contest and a twin look-alike contest.
