The opening of the Del Mar Fair attracted 32,103 visitors, up more than 6,000 from last year, fair organizers reported Friday.

“We’re pleased with opening day. It’s a good indication that attendance will be good,” said Jim Stewart, director of media relations. The fair, which opened Thursday, is the second-largest in California.

Kris Kristofferson is expected to pack the grandstand for his shows at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. today, Stewart said. Admission to grandstand shows is included in the $4 fair admission and is on a first come, first served basis. Seating opens one hour before performance time. Jesse Colin Young and the Youngbloods will perform afternoon and evening shows on Sunday.
