A Parks and Recreation Department employee lost control of his city van, which careened 200 feet into an apartment building in South Los Angeles, burying an 8-month-old boiy in rubble and injuring three others, poice said. The infant who ws not identified, was in critical condition at Martin Luther King Jr. General Hospital, a spokesman said. A 15-year-old babysitter and two girls, ages 5 and 8, were bruised and cut in the mishap. Traffic officrs said Shawn Jordan, 19, was driving south on San Pedro Street and was attempting to change lanes when a car turned left from 69th Street onto San Pedro, forcing Jordan to swerve and bounce off the curb. The van then skidded 200 feet down the road, hit a parked Jeep, knocked down 40 feet of chainlink fence and plowed into the apartment buillding.
