Gorbachev Hits U.S. Talks Role

MOSCOW —
Soviet leader Mikhail S. Gorbachev today sharply attacked U.S. conduct at the Geneva arms control talks and said he will not let Washington use the meetings as a cover for a military buildup.
“We simply cannot again allow the talks to be used to distract attention, as a cover for military preparations whose aim is to ensure the strategic supremacy of the U.S.A.,” Gorbachev said in a talk to metal workers.
