Santa Monica
Citizens Against Aircraft Noise Pollution will meet with Santa Monica Airport officials at 7:30 tonight to discuss noise problems.
Those wishing to attend the session in the conference room of the Main Library, 1343 6th St., should call the citizen’s group at 394-3623.
Disputes over airport noise have been going on for several decades. Pilots, residents, the City of Santa Monica and the Federal Aviation Administration were involved in a settlement of the longstanding dispute in January, 1984. They signed an agreement to keep the airport open until 2015 and establish a noise mitigation program.
Laura Padovan, of Citizens Against Aircraft Noise Pollution, said that despite the mitigation programs, aircraft noise has increased since February.
She and other residents have circulated a petition asking the city to deal with the noise.
