Control Data Realigns Key Management

Control Data Corp., Minneapolis, on Friday announced a management realignment to to deal with marketing, strategy and quality control concerns.

All moves are effective Monday.

Henry J. White, former president of the computer products group, will become a senior vice president for operations and will oversee all manufacturing, engineering, software and research functions.

Robert W. Duncan, president of international operations, was named senior vice president for corporate marketing and strategic development. He replaces Executive Vice President Thomas W. Miller, who becomes president of a new technical support services group.

Meanwhile, Thomas C. Roberts, president and chief executive of the Fairchild Camera & Instrument unit of Schlumberger Ltd., will join Control Data as head of international operations.

The computer company said the moves reflect President Robert M. Price’s concerns about quality improvement as well as current “strategic analysis and adjustment” in the wake of computer-industry problems.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY

American Benefit Plan Administrators Inc., Los Angeles, named Harry L. Auston president. Succeeding him as executive vice president is C.J. (Bud) Monson.

California Federal Savings & Loan Assn., Los Angeles, named Frank M. Piluso senior vice president-computing and communications. He’ll be based at the S&L;’s Rosemead service center.

First Pacific Advisors, Los Angeles, named Senior Vice President Christopher Linden chairman of its FPA Paramount mutual fund. He continues as senior vice president of the fund. First Pacific is a unit of Angeles Corp.

William Esty Co., a New York-based advertising agency, named Richard Macedo vice president in its Los Angeles office.

The Los Angeles-based advertising agency BBDO/West named Fred Schiller vice president and executive producer in charge of its broadcast division. Also named vice presidents at BBDO/West were Rick Shoup, Dabni Harvey and Linda Young.

Los Angeles-based Douglas Boyd Design & Marketing named Robert Robertson vice president-client management and business development.

Michael D. Moynahan has been appointed vice president of Dominguez Water Corp., Carson, a privately held utility company in the South Bay and Long Beach.

Peter Affe has been appointed vice president-East Coast operations for Burbank-based Walt Disney Pictures’ new domestic television division.

Terry G. Roussel has been named vice president and director of Bank of America’s special investments group, Los Angeles.

Herb Carrel has joined California Federal Savings & Loan Assn., Los Angeles, as senior vice president of the loan services division.

Kellogg & Andelson, a West Hollywood accounting firm, named James F. Walters president and managing officer, succeeding Sherman L. Andelson, who retired in April.

Carl R. Krohn has been promoted to vice president-logistics and Herbert Meyer to vice president-quality assurance and systems effectiveness for Singer Co.’s Librascope division in Glendale.

Julian Myers has been promoted to executive vice president-worldwide motion picture and television publicity/marketing for Hanson & Schwam Public Relations, Los Angeles.

Beverly Hills-based Cardis Corp., a distributor of auto parts and supplies, named four new executives: James E. Lane, senior vice president-operations; Steven Gilman, vice president-marketing; Ronald Ahlstrom, vice president-regional manager, and Jack Sharkey, vice president-regional manager.

Joseph Valentine, executive vice president of Valley National Bank in Glendale, has been elected president of the Independent Bankers Assn. of Southern California. William Treder, executive vice president of Huntington Park-based Community Bank, was named vice president. The group comprises about 230 independent banks based in Southern California.

Victor A. Grgas, director of development planning for the Community Development Commission of Los Angeles County, has been elected a director of the National Council for Urban Economic Development in Washington.

Paxton Quigley was appointed vice president of Holcris Equity Corp., Los Angeles.

Gin D. Wong, heads of Gin D. Wong Associates, a planning and architectural firm, and Nelson C. Rising, a partner in Maguire Thomas Partners, were named trustees of the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum.
