Cruising China

The Michael Carltons of the world should stay home, rather than spending thousands of dollars to venture out on a gilded cruise ship and say they’ve seen China (June 16). Had Carlton set aside his superior attitude and attempted to really understand the Chinese, instead of running back to the ship for a shower and a drink, he might have enjoyed his stay a little more. His article left a bad taste in my mouth, what with his sniveling about filth and pollution. In contrast, Elizabeth Hansen (also June 16) accepts China for what it is, and seeks out the different and interesting. Her article next to Carlton’s only serves to make his all the more disgusting. Please, no more whining from Carlton.
