Indian Police Kill 3 in Halting Class Strife

NEW DELHI — Indian police fired on groups in the western industrial city of Baroda who had been fighting pitched battles with acid bombs and stones, killing three and wounding at least 15, the Press Trust of India reported Sunday.
Troops were deployed in Baroda on Friday to halt clashes that began three months ago over a Gujarat state government policy reserving jobs and college places for lower classes. Almost 200 people have since died in the intermittent violence.
