The Colombian guerrilla group M-19 said it has broken a 10-month-old truce with the government with an attack on the town of Genova, 120 miles west of Bogota, killing 19 people. The group, also known as the April 19 Movement, said in a statement that this was the first offensive action by the rebels after “the rupture of the truce by the army and the government.” The attack followed a week of skirmishes between M-19 and the army in the Valle del Cauca region in southwestern Colombia.
