At the request of Capt. Morgan Petersen of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the council agreed to barricade Crest Road above Ganado Drive during the Fourth of July weekend. Barricading the street will prevent non-residents from congregating in the high, hillside area to watch coastal fireworks displays.

The area is bounded by large stretches of dry weeds, Petersen said, and although firecrackers are banned on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, there is a danger of someone tossing one into the dry brush.

The area is closed to non-residents until Monday. Unauthorized people caught in the area face arrest, Mayor John McTaggart said. This is the fifth year the road has been barricaded, Petersen said.
