Local News in Brief : Pacoima Is Finalist for Enterprise Zone
Pacoima has cleared a key hurdle to becoming a state enterprise zone that could offer tax breaks to businesses in exchange for relocating to the area.
The state Department of Commerce on Monday announced that the northeast San Fernando Valley community is one of 20 areas in the state invited to submit final applications.
The state expects to select 10 economically distressed areas to be designated as enterprise zones in February. Fifty-seven communities were in the competition before the list was narrowed down on Monday.
Pasadena, central Los Angeles and Watts are also among the 20 finalists.
