A federal judge today denied a motion to move the espionage trial of Arthur James Walker to Richmond because of heavy pretrial publicity and the area’s large military population.

U.S. District Judge J. Calvitt Clarke Jr. said, however, that it may be necessary to move the trial if an unbiased jury cannot be selected when the trial opens here Aug. 5. Arthur Walker, 50, is charged in a seven-count indictment with giving his brother, James A. Walker Jr., classified documents on Navy ship repair for delivery to the Soviet Union.
