The recount of last month’s special election will have to wait at least two more weeks to become official.

The City Council voted this week to delay action on a resolution submitted by City Clerk Kathleen Reviczky that amended the original results of the special election June 11. The recount, held June 27, doubled the margin of defeat for a proposed beachfront hotel from one vote to two. At least three ballots, however, may be challenged in court by proponents of the project.

Newly chosen Mayor Jack Wood, who voted against a successful resolution last month that made the original election results official, said he intended to vote against the recount tally, too, because of the challenged ballots. Councilmen Gary Brutsch and Tony DeBellis joined Wood in asking City Atty. James Lough for an opinion--to be submitted at the next council meeting in two weeks--on what the legal impact would be if the council voted to reject the recount results.

The council members, with the exception of George Barks, have been vocal supporters of the proposed hotel development, which would be built on the Strand between 13th and 15th streets.
