Demand for semiconductors was weak in June.

According to the Semiconductor Industry Assn., U.S. semiconductor sales totaled $725.6 million during the month, a 1.5% increase from May, while the average monthly orders for the three-month period ending June 30 were down 57.4% from the like 1984 period. The book-to-bill ratio, which compares new orders to shipments, remained at 0.72 during June, the same level as in May. That was up slightly from a low of 0.64 last December but far below the 1.53 recorded in January, 1984, according to the association.
