Marcos ordered an investigation into press reports that government officials and individuals violated Philippine laws by amassing wealth and transferring the fortunes abroad. The order followed stories in both the United States and the Philippines, charging that Marcos, his wife, Imelda, and friends of theirs made multimillion-dollar investments in real estate and other U.S. businesses.
