Local News in Brief : 1,600 Sherman Oaks Homes Lose Power

Share

An estimated 1,600 homes in Sherman Oaks were without power for several hours Thursday night and Friday morning because of two apparently related equipment failures.

Power was cut to about 800 homes at 11 p.m. Thursday when a transformer in an underground vault at Ventura and Sepulveda boulevards blew out, Department of Water and Power spokeswoman Elizabeth Wimmer said.

A DWP crew was working on that problem when a line failure at a distributing station in the 15000 block of Ventura Boulevard cut power to another 800 homes at 12:33 a.m. Friday.

The blackouts affected an area bounded by Ventura Boulevard, Valley Vista Boulevard, Noble Avenue and Sepulveda Boulevard.

All power was restored by 4:30 a.m., Wimmer said.

She said that the problems were probably related and that heat and a heavy summer load were thought to be the cause.
