WASHINGTON — President Reagan’s weekly radio address, which Reagan recorded before going into the hospital on Friday, was to be broadcast as usual today, the White House announced.
Presidential spokesman Larry Speakes said the five-minute speech, which Reagan normally delivers live at 9:06 a.m. PDT, was recorded on Thursday as a precautionary measure before Reagan entered the hospital to undergo a colon examination and removal of a small intestinal polyp. During the procedure, doctors discovered a large growth, which they planned to remove surgically today.
However, the Democratic response to the President’s speech, which is broadcast an hour after Reagan’s address, was canceled because of the surgery.
