LONDON — The U.S. dollar fell to its lowest levels in a year today in response to worries about the U.S. economy and President Reagan’s health. Gold prices rose $6 an ounce.
The dollar lost nearly 3 cents against the pound, 4.6 pfennigs against the Deutschmark and nearly 6 centimes against the Swiss franc.
Currency dealers said rumors originated in Singapore that Reagan was in a coma or had died, but the unfounded shock affected the markets only temporarily.
