Two people who operated a bogus legal services center were convicted of 39 misdemeanor counts for defrauding eight poor people facing eviction or foreclosure out of about $10,000. Deputy City Atty. L. Wayne Mooney said the defendants, Richard Leroy Davis, 39, and Bonita Davison, 29, operated Citywide Legal Services and then later Hub Legal Services in South Los Angeles. Mooney said the defendants would promise legal help to people involved in either eviction or foreclosure proceedings and “then simply take their money and not provide any of the services.” The crimes occurred from October, 1984, to last April. Sentencing before Judge Marion Obera was set for Aug. 20 when Davis faces up to 10 1/2 years in jail and Davison a maximum of four years in jail.
